In pictures: 2014's Northern Roots Festival acts

What has been described as the biggest gathering of folk musicians in Inverness in years will be held next week. The Northern Roots Festival will feature a vocalist on a Grammy winning album, BBC 2 Folk Award nominees and local talent.

After five years of being held at Bogbain Farm, the festival will for the first time feature take place at venues in Inverness from 28 May to 1 June, including Eden Court theatre.

Adam Holmes

Edinburgh-born Adam Holmes will be among the event's performers. His debut album Heirs and Graces was nominated for last year's Scottish Album of the Year Award.

Aoife O'Donovan

Aoife O'Donovan is lead singer of the band Crooked Still and was the vocalist on the Grammy winning album The Goat Rodeo Sessions. She has a solo album called Fossils.

Rachel Sermanni

Rachel Sermanni, from Carrbridge in the Cairngorms National Park, performed at Glasgow's Celtic Connections Burns Night this year. Her song, Everything Is Ok, is the soundtrack of the Royal Bank of Scotland's 2014 television advertising campaign.

Will Pond

Will Pond was nominated for this year's BBC Radio 2 Folk Award Musician of the Year. Organisers of the Northern Roots Festival have described him as one of the world's top harmonica players.

Bella Hardy

Bella Hardy, a singer and fiddle player, won Best Original Song at 2012's BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Other acts performing include Blue Rose Code, The Dirty Beggars, Manchester-born musician Emma Sweeney, Inverness Gaelic Choir and Anna Massie, a traditional musician from the Black Isle.

Organisers said that after five years of holding the event at Bogbain Farm on the outskirts of Inverness it was time to expand it to venues in the city. They include Eden Court, Hootananny, Gellions and open air sessions in Falcon Square.
