Climber fell 1,000ft in avalanche on Ben Nevis

A climber caught up in an avalanche on Ben Nevis on Tuesday fell about 1,000ft (300m), rescuers have said.

The man was close to Number Four Gully on the mountain when the snow slide happened at about 11:30.

Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team and an RAF helicopter and mountain rescue team went to his aid.

The man was taken to Belford Hospital in Fort William. Three people who were with him were traced and were uninjured.
