Probe into three case of TB in Helmsdale area

Three cases of tuberculosis (TB) are being treated and investigated in Sutherland, NHS Highland has said.

Among those affected in the Helmsdale area is a nursery school pupil. The health board said the youngster did not catch the infection at school.

NHS Highland said for TB to spread it required an affected person to be infectious and also to have had prolonged, close contact with others.

The health board deals with an average of 13 confirmed TB cases a year.
