Climber survives 200ft mountain fall in Cairngorms

A climber has survived a fall of about 200ft (61m) in the Cairngorm mountains.

He was one of group from England who had just completed a winter route on Coire Cas.

The man, who was leading the group, fell through a cornice but landed on soft snow.

Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team, who were alerted at about 13:30, helped stretcher the man off the hill. He was later being treated for a broken ankle at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

About two minutes after the incident, two people from a group of Finnish climbers fell in the same area

They were uninjured and made their own way off the hill.
