Vote to be held on Carloway Estate buyout

Residents of Carloway Estate on Lewis are to vote next month on whether they support a community buyout of the land.

Carloway Estate Trust has proposed taking over 11,400 acres (4,613.4 ha), some of which surrounds the ancient Callanish Standing Stones.

Postal ballot papers will be sent out on 10 February and will have to be returned by 16:00 on 24 February when the count will be held.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is organising the vote.
