Councillors in the Western Isles have approved plans for a 14-turbine wind farm on a site 10 miles (16km) from Stornoway on Lewis.

The company 2020 Renewables is planning to build the £70m scheme on common grazing land at North Tolsta.

The local community could get funding of almost £300,000-a-year from the development.

Last week, councillors approved plans for two wind turbines opposed by the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar's environment committee voted in favour of the community wind farm at Locheport in North Uist.

The MoD has said the turbines would have an "unacceptable" impact on radars on the islands.
