Teenage girl dies after being hit by lorry in Thornhill

A 17-year-old girl has died after being hit by an articulated lorry in Dumfries and Galloway, police have said.

The incident happened in West Morton Street in the town of Thornhill, 15 miles north of Dumfries, at about 17:00 on Wednesday.

Police said the teenager had been taken to Dumfries Infirmary but died from her injuries.

The A76 Dumfries to Kilmarnock road was closed for several hours while a crash investigation was carried out.

The 48-year-old lorry driver was unhurt.

Anyone who witnessed the incident has been asked to contact the police.
