Inverness care home to close for refurbishment work

An Inverness care home is to close temporarily to carry out refurbishment work ordered by the Care Inspectorate.

The watchdog issued an improvement notice for Clachnaharry House Nursing Home after raising concerns about the state of flooring and bathrooms.

It also highlighted issues over staffing levels and record keeping.

NHS Highland said the home would be closed by the end of December. The 18 residents will be moved to other accommodation while the work is done.

Operator RDS Healthcare has not commented on the closure.

'Clinical reasons'

The Care Inspectorate said it had "serious concerns" about the quality of care offered at Clachnaharry House.

A spokesman said: "The health, safety and welfare of residents is the absolute priority because everyone is entitled to care that reflects their needs and promotes their rights."

NHS Highland suspended its admissions to the home in November 2012.

A spokesman said: "There are currently 18 residents in the home and it is our wish to have them moved to and settled in a new care environment as soon as possible.

"Five residents have been moved to hospital for a variety of clinical reasons.

"As a board our priority is the residents currently still in Clachnaharry and we have already started discussions with them, and their relatives, about the choices and opportunities that are available to them.

"In the meantime we will continue to work with the care home staff in providing advice and support to ensure this goes as smoothly as possible."
