Funds approved for restoration of Black Isle's Kirkmichael

Kirkmichael Church Kirkmichael was built in the Middle Ages and later fell into disuse

Highland councillors have agreed that up to £70,000 should be provided for the restoration of a ruined historic Black Isle church.

Kirkmichael at Balblair was built in the Middle Ages but fell into disuse in the 18th Century.

The last surviving part of the roof collapsed under the weight of heavy snow in April last year.

The Kirkmichael Trust is trying to raise £689,676 through donations from various public bodies.

Once restored, the trust has proposed creating a permanent display of medieval sculptured gravestones inside the building.
