Man held after 'shots' reported in Inverness street

Armed police at the scene Armed police were called to the "disturbance" in the Hilton area

A man has been detained following reports that shots were fired in an area south of Inverness city centre.

Armed officers responded to calls about a disturbance in the Hilton district at 13:10.

Residents in Mackay Road and Leyton Drive, close to the incident, were warned to stay indoors for their own safety.

Police put cordons in place in the area and asked people to stay away.

Officers initially advised pupils at Cauldeen primary who live around Mackay Road to stay inside the school, but they were later allowed home.

Residents reported police scene-of-crime specialists working in the area.

Police Scotland's Highland division said emergency services had been stood down, however, a police presence was being maintained in the area while inquiries continued.
