Rosemary Wickstead named as woman who died off coast of Harris

A woman who died after getting into difficulties while swimming off the coast of Harris has been named.

Police said she was Rosemary Wickstead, 45, from the London area.

It is understood she had been swimming with her husband and three sons at Borve beach on Monday evening.

A local resident alerted Stornoway Coastguard at about 19:40 BST. Ms Wickstead was airlifted to Western Isles Hospital, where she died.

A man and two boys were taken to hospital by ambulance but were later released.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "At approximately 20:05 police received a report from HM Coastguard in relation to a maritime incident at Borve beach on the Isle of Harris.

"A woman was flown to the Western Isles Hospital where she sadly died."
