Stornoway shop WeeW facing closure

A store called the WeeW which opened as a replacement for a Woolworths on Lewis is facing closure after encountering financial difficulties.

Ex-workers of the town's "Woolies" - one of 815 that closed after the chain went into administration in 2009 - were among its first staff and investors.

The Stornoway store's name is a play on the title of Woolworths' major outlets - Big W.

The WeeW will shut within weeks unless a buyer is found for the business.

One of the leading figures behind the launch of the shop was Ann MacCallum, the former manager of the Stornoway Woolworths, who died last month.

Police confirmed on 15 May that a body found fives days earlier on a beach near Swordale on Lewis was Ms MacCallum's.
