£1m boost for UK's largest planned community wind farm

Plans for the UK's largest community-owned wind farm have secured a £1m grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

Point and Sandwick Development Trust wants to erect three turbines capable of generating a total of 9MW.

The proposed site is an area of common grazing land four miles (6km) west of Stornoway on Lewis.

Profits from the sale of electricity generated will be used to support the Western Isles' only hospice, as well as young people with additional needs.
