Global Energy Group to invest £37m in upgrading quay

South Quay An artist's impression of the revamped quayside

Global Energy Group plans to invest £37m upgrading the South Quay at its Nigg yard in Easter Ross.

The engineering company took over the fabrication yard in 2011.

After years of decline the site is being put back into use as a base for refitting oil rigs and servicing the renewable energy sector.

Formal planning applications to carry out work to the quay have been submitted to Highland Council and government agency Marine Scotland.

If approved, the improvements would make 1,000m (3,280ft) of deep water quayside available to shipping at Nigg Energy Park.
