Heavy rain warning for Scotland

The Met Office has warned of heavy rain affecting parts of Scotland on Friday.

It has issued a yellow "be aware" warning for Skye, northern Argyll, Lochaber, western parts of Tayside and central Scotland.

Forecasters said outbreaks of rain will turn persistent and heavy and, coming on top of rainfalls during Thursday, could cause localised river flooding.

The warning covers the period from 00:05 to 21:00, after which the rain is expected to become lighter.

Forecasters said heavy rain started to fall in the Western Isles overnight, turning to snow as temperatures fell.

The wet weather is expected to last until Saturday morning, when drier spells will return.
