Piglets die after possible fall from trailer on A9
Two piglets found by the side of the A9 in the Highlands may have fallen from a trailer, the Scottish SPCA has said.
A motorist spotted the animals near Dalwhinnie on Thursday afternoon and alerted the animal welfare charity.
One of the piglets was dead and the other was curled up at the side of the road still alive. It was taken to a vets but died.
Scottish SPCA officer Beverley O'Lone said it was thought the pair had fallen out of a transporter.
She said: "The vet advised it's likely they both died as a result of injuries sustained when they fell on to the road.
"It's possible the person driving the vehicle wasn't aware they had lost the piglets, but we believe other motorists may have witnessed this incident."
The animal rescue officer added: "Unfortunately the piglets don't have any tags or other identification so we're appealing to anyone with information to come forward."
