Police searching for a journalist reported missing in the Highlands earlier this week have found his car.

Clive Dennier, from Inverness, failed to turn up for work at the Strathspey and Badenoch Herald on Monday.

He had spoken of going hill walking last weekend, but has not been seen since.

Officers said they had found the 50-year-old's Volkswagen Polo west of Invergarry, in the Knoydart area, on Friday morning.

A spokesman for Highland Constabulary said: "As a result of this development, organised searches of the area have now commenced.

"At this time two mountain rescue teams, police search dogs are deployed to the search.

"Mr Dennier's family have been updated. This remains a very anxious time for them and they ask that their privacy is respected."

One of Britain's leading mountaineers, Cameron McNeish, had earlier urged walkers and climbers to be on the alert for Mr Dennier and his car.
