Postman dies while delivering mail in Benbecula

A postman has died after being knocked down by his own van in Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides.

It is believed he was caught under the vehicle as he removed parcels from the back.

The incident happened in Ford Terrace at about 11:30 on Thursday.

Northern Constabulary said emergency services were called but the man died at the scene. Investigations are being carried out.

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: "Unfortunately one of our postmen on Benbecula died while delivering the mail.

"We are assisting the police in their investigation.

"Our thoughts are with the postman's family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time."
