Man airlifted to hospital after cliff fall on Lewis

A man was airlifted to hospital on Sunday night after falling down a cliff face on Lewis.

The 44-year-old was believed to have fallen about six metres (20ft) onto a shingle beach at Garrobost on the east side of the island.

The accident happened at about 19:30.

He managed to raise the alarm using his mobile phone and was later winched to safety by the Stornoway Coastguard helicopter.

The man was thought to have received treatment for a leg injury.
