Highland councillor Robert Coghill has resigned for medical reasons.

Mr Coghill represented Landward Caithness and was a member of Highland Council's Independent Group. He also helps to run a farm at Halkirk.

A councillor since 2007, Mr Coghill said he was disappointed at having to stand down, but added that he could not ignore medical advice.

A by-election will be held on 2 May, with the count taking place the following day.
