Fire crews at the scene Firefighters were called to the scene early on Monday morning

Fire crews have been tackling a blaze which broke out at a hotel building in the Highlands.

Almost 50 firefighters were called out to the Royal Hotel on Dingwall High Street early on Monday.

A number of people were evacuated from the hotel, which is a homeless hostel. The impact on several businesses below the hostel is not yet clear.

Northern Constabulary said diversions were being put in place and asked the public to avoid the area at this time.

A spokesman for Highland Council said: "We're seeking new accommodation for nine homeless clients evacuated from the Royal Hotel as the result of the overnight fire."
