Man rescued after night on peak in Glen Coe

A climber who had to spend a night on a mountain in Glen Coe after hurting a leg has been rescued by a Royal Navy helicopter crew.

The man, who had set out to climb on Thursday morning, was found just after 06:00 on Stob Coire nan Lochan.

He was located by the crew on a ledge at 762m (2,500ft) on the 1,115m (3,658ft) mountain.

The Royal Navy said the climber was experienced and well equipped for the conditions.

One of the pilots of the helicopter from HMS Gannet in Ayrshire said the blizzard conditions encountered were some of the worst he had experienced.

The climber was treated in hospital and later discharged.
