New bigger Inverness Royal Academy planned

A replacement for the ageing Inverness Royal Academy will be able to take hundreds more pupils than the current building.

In a report to councillors, Highland Council officers said the new school should be big enough to handle a roll of 1,400.

At the moment, the IRA has a roll of about 940 pupils.

Officers have sought councillors' approval to seeking funding for the school. It could cost about £33m.

The report said the school could have six classrooms dedicated to Gaelic medium education.

Highland Council's adult and children's services committee will consider the report next week.
