A film editor who grew up in Scotland has been nominated for an Oscar.

US-born Crispin Struthers, 35, went to primary school on the remote Highland Scoraig Peninsula before going to secondary school in Gairloch.

Jointly with Jay Cassidy, he has been nominated for the film editing Oscar for their work on Silver Linings Playbook.

The comedy drama starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper has eight Oscar nominations in total.

Mr Struthers and Mr Cassidy are up against the editors of Argo, Life of Pi, Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty.

The winners will be announced next month.

Mr Struthers was Gairloch High School's first dux. His mother still lives in the Highlands.
