Services confirmed for Conon Bridge railway station

The former station at Conon Bridge was closed in the 1960s

Train services have been confirmed for a Highland railway station which is being reopened to help ease congestion during bridge repairs.

The platform at Conon Bridge in Ross-shire has been shut since 1960.

The new £600,000 station is to be opened by February 2013, ahead of resurfacing work on the A9's Kessock Bridge at Inverness.

ScotRail has confirmed that 13 south-bound and 12 north-bound services will call at Conon Bridge when it reopens.

The train company said that three Monday to Saturday services will get commuters into Inverness before 09:00. There will be two evening peak journeys in the other direction.

Resurfacing work starts on the Kessock Bridge from February to June 2013. Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering has been appointed to carry out the £13.2m contract.

Further works are planned for February to June 2014.

The new Conon Bridge station will service the Far North and the Kyle Lines.
