Stornoway harbour chiefs warnings over new ferry

Stornoway harbour chiefs are to meet Transport Minister Keith Brown to discuss berthing facilities for a new ferry.

The £41.8m vessel is to start sailing on the Stornoway to Ullapool route in June 2014.

Stornoway Port Authority has warned that only one of its two berths will be fit to handle the ferry.

The port authority bosses will seek government funds for a second berth to be available as a back up.

Two berths are available for ferries at the moment.

The port authority said Ullapool on the mainland would also have just one of its two berths capable of handling the new vessel.
