Western Isles by-election won by Angus MacDonald Morrison

A local authority by-election in the Western Isles has been won by independent candidate Angus MacDonald Morrison.

The ballot for the Uig and North Lochs ward followed the death of SNP councillor Bill Houston in September.

A former director at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Mr Houston had been elected to the council in May.

Mr Morrison took 745 votes, SNP candidate John Norman MacDonald 195 and independent Les Mac an Ultaigh 73.
