Thurso man jailed for repeated sex attacks on girl

A Thurso man who repeatedly indecently assaulted a girl over an 11-year period has been jailed for 12 months.

David Cunningham, 33, began sexually assaulting the child when she was aged five-years-old and he was 17.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard the abuse took place on a number of occasions between 1996 and 2007.

Cunningham, of Tormsdale Place, Thurso, Caithness, was convicted of two charges of lewd, indecent and libidinous practices.

The sentencing comes after a trial was held in September at the High Court in Inverness.

Cunningham's defence solicitor told the court that his client was sorry for his actions.

He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
