Teenager who died after crash near Fort Augustus named

A 17-year-old who died following a one-car crash in the Highlands has been named by police.

Matthew Ricketts was a passenger in a silver Citroen which crashed on the B862 between Whitebridge and Fort Augustus at about 22:05 on Saturday.

The student was from the nearby community of Torness.

The driver of the car was taken by ambulance to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. He was said to be in a stable condition.

Mr Ricketts was a former pupil at Inverness Royal Academy.

Rector Alastair McKinlay said: "Matthew was a popular lad.

"The school community is shocked and saddened at this terrible news and our thoughts are very much with the families at this time."
