Plan to end Orkney, Shetland and Highland fire units

Three retained fire stations in the Northern Isles and a community response unit in the Highlands look set to be discontinued.

The stations on Foula and Outer Skerries in Shetland, Flotta in Orkney, and Boat of Garten's community unit have been deemed not sustainable.

Highlands and Islands Fire Service chiefs have recommended closure.

Bosses looked at staffing levels, incidents dealt with, and how cover could be provided from elsewhere.

Highland and Islands Fire Board will consider the recommendation next week.
