Crofters want ownership of Little and Greater Bernera
A group of crofters is preparing to launch a community buy-out of their island and a smaller uninhabited isle.
Little Bernera, on the west side of Lewis, has been left to the National Trust for Scotland in the will of its late owner, Count Robin Mirrlees.
Crofters hope to use right-to-buy legislation to take ownership of the island and the larger Greater Bernera, which is owned by the count's family.
Uninhabited Little Bernera is renowned for its unspoilt beaches.
The count had lived on Greater Bernera for 40 years. He died in June.
