Woman dies after car crash on A82

A 35-year-old woman has died following a two-car road crash on the A82, on the banks of Loch Ness.

The collision happened at Abriachan, about nine miles from Inverness, at 01:40, police said.

Claire MacDonald, who was from Inverness, was the driver of a black Renault Clio. A passenger in her car was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the other car, a silver Renault Megane, was uninjured.

The road was closed for seven hours following the crash but has now been reopened.
