Five fire stations in Highland, Orkney and Shetland 'not sustainable'

Five fire stations have failed to meet required standards set by Highlands and Islands Fire Board.

Sleat on Skye, Foula and Outer Skerries in Shetland, Flotta in Orkney and Boat of Garten in Highland were not sustainable, the board said.

It added that this was despite local efforts to maintain adequate crew numbers and meet training criteria.

Deputy chief fire officer Stewart Edgar said "robust arrangements" were in place to provide fire cover.

Fellow deputy chief fire officer Mike Holme added: "A full analysis of the stations will be carried out and the service will focus on local engagement, working with communities to seek to address any inability to meet the criteria."
