Diamond Jubilee: Exhibition features unseen Queen Mother photographs

Previously unseen photographs of the late Queen Mother are to go on display in a new exhibition at the Castle of Mey in Caithness.

The display, which opens on Tuesday, commemorates the 10th anniversary of her death - and will also help mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Castle of Mey was the Queen Mother's home in Scotland.

The exhibition will feature photographs of her visits to Caithness, such as her appearances at the Mey Highland Games.

The charity which looks after the castle and the North Highland Initiative are involved in staging the show.

James Murray, managing director of the Castle and Gardens of Mey, said: ''We are delighted to be opening this splendid exhibition during such an important year for the Royal Family."

Formerly known as Barrogill Castle, the Queen Mother first saw the abandoned castle in 1952 while mourning the death of her husband, King George VI.

She acquired the most northerly-inhabited castle on the British mainland and had it renovated and restored.
