Work starts on new freight terminal for Dounreay nuclear material

Work is under way on a new freight terminal in Caithness which will enable trains to move nuclear material from Dounreay to Sellafield in Cumbria.

Dounreay Site Restoration Limited said the project at Georgemas Junction should be completed by the summer.

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) plans to start moving tonnes of material to Cumbria later this year.

Dounreay, an experimental nuclear power complex, is being demolished and the site cleaned up.
