Rise in cruise visits expect to continue, says council

A trend for increasing numbers of cruise ships stopping off at Highland ports is expected to continue in 2011, according to the council.

Its tourism development officer has reported there was a substantial rise in passengers visiting the region last year.

Ullapool was the only place that saw a reduction in numbers in 2010, but the council said bookings had picked up.

Cruise operators have also expressed interest in visiting Fort William.

The Lochaber town received its first visit from a cruise liner last year.
