Police probe after osprey dies in Highlands

An osprey rescued from near a river in the Highlands has died from injuries that were deliberately inflicted, according to police.

The bird of prey was rescued from close to the River Dunbeath in Caithness by a Scottish SPCA inspector on Monday.

A vet tried to save the osprey, but it died from its injuries.

Pc Cailean Macleod, of Northern Constabulary, appealed to anyone with information about how the bird was injured to contact police.
