Ryan Taylor jailed over teenager murder bid in Ayr
A man who "inflicted dreadful injuries" on a teenager has been jailed for 10 years for attempted murder.
Ryan Taylor, 30, stabbed the 15-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, during a row over loud music at flats where he lived in Ayr.
He denied attempting to kill the boy in January this year but was found guilty.
The High Court in Glasgow heard that Taylor had a lengthy criminal record and was awaiting sentence for another offence at the time of the stabbing.
After the jury returned its unanimous verdict, the court heard that Taylor had previous convictions for possessing offensive weapons and assault.
Jailing him, judge Bill Dunlop QC told Taylor: "You appear to have learned nothing from the previous convictions.
"It is quite clear that you armed yourself that night with a knife and inflicted dreadful injuries on the victim."
The judge said he accepted there had been a "degree of provocation" but that a lengthy jail-term had to be imposed.
The jury heard how the 15 year-old boy had been at the flats with others when a row broke out about loud music.
It was claimed the teenager hit a man before Taylor eventually got involved and stabbed the teenager.
