Man sexually assaults girl in Irvine wood

A man who sexually assaulted a teenage girl in Ayrshire after pulling her into a wood is being hunted by police.

The attacker grabbed the 17-year-old as she walked along Bank Street, Irvine, at about 20:55 on Thursday.

Police Scotland said he was about 20, of Asian appearance, and very slim.

He was wearing a long-sleeved navy blue shirt, black dress trousers and black shoes. He spoke with a local accent.

Det Insp Scott McClelland said: "The area where this incident took place is usually busy with passing motorists and pedestrians, and I would urge anyone who witnessed anything that may assist this investigation to contact us.

"The suspect was last seen making his way into Patterson Avenue, and anyone who saw him or recognises his description should contact police as a matter of urgency."
