Lorry driver dies in three vehicle crash near Carstairs

A lorry driver has died and two other people have been injured in a three-vehicle crash in South Lanarkshire.

The 45-year-old man's Mercedes lorry collided with an eastbound DAF lorry and Vauxhall Insignia car on the A70 at Carstairs at about 13:30 on Wednesday.

He died at the scene. The other lorry driver, 57, was treated at the scene. The car driver, 47, was taken to hospital with a collar bone injury.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash to contact them.

Sergeant Alison McAuley, from Police Scotland, said: "Although we have spoken to some people who were in the area, I would ask anyone who was travelling on that stretch of road after 1300 hours on Wednesday and saw any of the vehicles or the collision to come forward."
