Man dies after being hit by train at Rutherglen station

A man has died after being hit by a train at Rutherglen station in South Lanarkshire.

The incident happened at about 11:00 and involved the 10:23 Dalmuir to Lanark service.

British Transport Police said there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

The line remains closed while emergency services attend the scene. ScotRail said replacement buses were running to Motherwell, Larkhall and Newton.

A spokeswoman for ScotRail said: "We've organised replacement buses to run between Motherwell/Larkhall and Newton.

"Customers can also use rail tickets to board First Buses between Glasgow and Rutherglen, Newton, Cambuslang, Blantyre, Hamilton, Motherwell, Wishaw and Carluke.

"Apologies to customers for any inconvenience caused by this sad incident."
