Yoker driver assault treated as attempted murder

Police are appealing for information following the attempted murder of a man in the Yoker area of Glasgow.

A 31-year-old man was driving on Spiershall Terrace, Yoker, when he was stopped and attacked by a group of youths who stabbed him and vandalised his car, at about 02:05 on Sunday.

A member of the public called an ambulance and the injured man was taken to the Western Infirmary.

Hospital staff described his condition as being serious.

Det Insp Ian Hyndlands said: "At this time we do not know why the man, who is not local to the area, was in Yoker or why he was targeted by youths and subjected to such a violent attack.

"As well as carrying out local inquiries, we are checking CCTV in the area to try to identify those involved but would also appeal to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious to come forward.

He added: "Spiershall Terrace is a residential area and I am sure that people would have heard this disturbance - the noise would have been unusual for that time of night."
