Hibs Paul Cairney cleared of fighting in Glasgow
Hibernian player Paul Cairney has been cleared of fighting after a sheriff found he was acting in self-defence.
The 26-year-old midfielder was arrested shortly after the incident in Queen Street, Glasgow, on 11 October 2013.
But after viewing CCTV footage, Sheriff John Baird found Mr Cairney not guilty and said the incident was a "vicious and sustained attack" on him.
After the case at Glasgow Sheriff Court, Mr Cairney, from Livingston, said he was "pleased" it was over.
He had been charged with a breach of the peace by engaging in a fight.
Sheriff Baird told Mr Cairney: "It's completely clear who the aggressor was in this situation and it certainly wasn't you."
