Police said the victim was forced into a close on Edinbeg Avenue

Police are hunting three men after a 33-year-old woman was forced into a common close and raped.

The victim was walking in Toryglen, Glasgow, when a man got out of a car and forced her into a close at, or about, 19 Edinbeg Avenue.

The man and two others, who were thought to be in the car, then carried out a serious sexual assault.

The attack happened at about 03:00 on Saturday. The three suspects are described as Asian and in their 20s.

Following the rape, the men made off and the victim managed to make her way home. Police were contacted the next morning.

The victim did not require hospital treatment, but has been left extremely distressed by the incident.

The attack happened in the early hours of Saturday morning

Det Ch Insp Sharon MacGregor, of Police Scotland, said: "Extensive inquiries are taking place by a team of dedicated officers and we are carrying out door-to-door inquiries and checking all available CCTV in order to trace the men responsible for this assault.

"I would appeal to anyone who saw or heard a disturbance in Edinbeg Avenue in the early hours of Saturday to contact police.

"I would also ask anyone who saw three Asian men in a light coloured car, possibly white or silver and which may be a BMW or similar make in the area around Edinbeg Avenue to contact officers.

Police said that extra uniform patrols were being deployed in the area to reassure local people and anyone with concerns should speak to an officer.
