Police have named a man who died after a suspected hit-and-run in North Lanarkshire.

Michael Delaney, 48, from Airdrie, died in hospital after being found lying seriously injured on Drumbathie Road in the town.

It is believed Mr Delaney, who had two young children, had been struck by a vehicle.

Sgt David Stenhouse said police were still trying to trace the vehicle and driver involved.

"I would re-appeal to anyone who was in the area and heard or saw something that could assist this investigation to come forward," he said.

"Michael, who was returning home from a night out with friends, was a family man and devoted to his partner and two young children, a six year old daughter and four year old son.

"His family are devastated by his death and are being supported by family and friends."

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
