Police forensic teams are examining an area of Glasgow Green after a woman was sexually assaulted at the weekend.

The 27-year-old was making her way home from work when she was attacked as she walked into the park from Saltmarket at about 23:30 on Saturday.

A man approached her from behind and pushed her to the ground before sexually assaulting her. The woman managed to struggle free and escape.

She did not need hospital treatment but was left badly shaken by her ordeal.

Her attacker is described as white, about 5ft 8in tall, with short dark hair.

'Frightening ordeal'

Det Insp Diane Caldwell, of Police Scotland, said: "This was an extremely upsetting and frightening ordeal that this woman experienced.

"A forensic examination is taking place at the area where this attack took place within the park.

"Detectives are also carrying out further enquiries in the local area and gathering CCTV footage in an effort to gather more information on the man responsible."

Det Insp Caldwell added: "It is vital that we trace this man, and I would urge anyone who may have been in the park and witnessed this assault take place, or who may have seen him acting suspiciously or running through the park to contact police as a matter of urgency."
