Mother and son threatened with weapon in Kirkintilloch flat

A man was seriously assaulted after he and his mother were threatened with a weapon by two men who broke into their flat in East Dunbartonshire.

The incident happened in Burns Court, Kirkintilloch, at about 01:10 on Thursday.

The 64-year-old woman was not injured but has been left badly shaken by the incident, however, her 45-year-old son was seriously assaulted.

He was treated at Glasgow Royal Infirmary for cuts to his head.

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.

Faces covered

The first suspect was described as being about 6ft 2in tall, in his early 30s, of heavy build.

The second man younger and described as "podgy". Both men had their faces covered.

Police officers have been carrying out door-to-door inquiries in the area.

Det Insp Douglas Robertson said: "There doesn't appear to be a motive for this attack, however we are following up a number of lines of inquiry.

"I am appealing to local people in the area who may have seen the two suspects around the time of the incident or who may noticed something suspicious to get in touch with us, whatever information you have, it could prove vital to our investigation."
