Staff threatened in Airdrie Scotmid robbery

A man escaped with cash from a till after threatening staff at a Scotmid store in Airdrie.

The man, whose face was covered with a black scarf, entered the shop in Forrest Street at about 20:35 on Friday.

He threatened two men and a woman who worked there and ran off with a three-figure sum of money.

He was white, about 6ft, of medium build. He was wearing a black jacket, black beanie hat and blue gloves.

Man hanging around

The suspect was also wearing blue Nike tracksuit trousers and white training shoes, described as dirty, and spoke with a local accent.

He ran off along Castle Street towards Meadowside Place.

Det Con Jim Williamson said: "Our inquiries so far have revealed that the man may have been hanging around outside the store prior to the crime taking place and I am appealing to the local community to get in touch with us.

"Perhaps someone noticed this man, perhaps he was acting a little suspiciously, if you saw anything or have any information or knowledge about the man or the crime then please do get in touch with us."
