Susan Aitken to lead Glasgow SNP group

The SNP group on Glasgow City Council has elected a new leader.

Councillor Susan Aitken replaces Graeme Hendry who stepped down for personal reasons.

Ms Aitken said she was hugely honoured to have been given the support of colleagues in the run up to the independence referendum.

The party had hoped to win control of Glasgow in the council elections two years ago but Labour retained its majority.

Ms Aitken has been the group's lead councillor on social work issues for the past two years.
