Girl, 15, targeted in sex attack in Cumnock, East Ayrshire

A 15-year-old girl has been sexually assaulted by a masked man in Cumnock, East Ayrshire.

The girl was approached by the man while walking in the town's Robbiesland Drive, towards Holmhead Road, between 22:30 and 22:40 on Sunday 2 March.

He pushed her to the ground and touched her inappropriately over her clothing.

The girl was slightly grazed but did not require hospital treatment. Police said she was left "very upset" by what had happened.

'Distressing incident'

The suspect was described as white, about 5ft 7in tall and well built.

At the time of the attack, he was wearing dark tracksuit bottoms, a navy top with white diagonal lettering on the left hand side at the chest area, and a balaclava.

Det Con Sarah Cawley, of Police Scotland, said: "Although unhurt, this was a very distressing incident for the young girl.

"She managed to flag down a car after the assault and they kindly took her to the local police office.

"We know from our house-to-house inquiries in the area, that a couple of the local people did hear screams at that time, so I would like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard something that may help us catch the man responsible."
